Lettuce – the heart of a healthy salad

nutrition

Lettuce is a good source of vitamin A, vitamin K and potassium, with higher concentrations of vitamin A found in darker green lettuces. It also provides some dietary fiber (concentrated in the spine and ribs), carbohydrates, protein and a small amount of fat. Most types also provide some vitamin C, calcium, iron and copper, with vitamins and minerals largely found in the leaf. They also contain a good amount of Folate.

storage tips

  • Washed fresh lettuce can be stored in the crisper or vegetable department of your fridge.
  • To gain enhanced freshness, try wrapping your lettuce with damp paper towels.
  • Lettuce should not be stored in direct sunlight or at room temperature for very long periods of time to prevent spoilage.
